The Weather is Hotting Up – But That Doesn’t Mean Your Horse’s Legs Need Should!

The Ultimate Guide To Breathable Boots

Most owners know there are lots of different boots on the market for different purposes; from brushing boots to turnout boots, overreach boots to turnout boots, tendon boots to bandages, but do you really understand the importance of choosing the right one?

Why is breathability important?

With ever advancing science and technology, owners no longer have to compromise protection over breathability and there are lots of options which offer both.

When horses are worked, tendons generate a significant amount of heat – and while this isn’t in itself a huge problem, putting a boot or bandage on top of the leg may allow the leg to heat up further and prevent heat escaping.

Your boot choice

When you exercise your horse think about the following things. Are your horse’s legs sweaty after exercise? Do your boots look like they have good ventilation? Are they thick and heavy, or do they absorb water when wet?

Our boot choice

Choosing breathable, lightweight, but protective boots is easy with Farm & Country’s range of boots.

Here are our favourites – suitable for all kinds of activities.

Make good choices

Try to only use boots while actually exercising and limit the amount of time boots are left on the leg. Ensure boots are removed as soon as possible after exercise and the leg is cooled properly - check out our range of cooling gels here to help this process.
